This week’s episode of Shameless, entitled ‘Ride or Die,’ marked a reunion fans have desperately been waiting for. For the first time in a year and a half, Mickey Milkovich and Ian Gallagher were back together — in every sense of those words. It was a beautiful episode for this couple who have had more than their fair share of ups and downs. The circumstances are not likely to lead to happily ever after, but it was exhilarating to see that the passion and chemistry between these two hasn’t waned during their time apart. I would say they picked up right where they left off, except the show seems to have forgotten where they left off. And why. Continue reading

So, here we are. We returned to Stars Hollow, we basked in the glow of our reunion with some of our favorite television characters, and we finally know how Amy Sherman-Palladino has always envisioned ending her beloved series.

There’s plenty to unpack as far as what this finale means for the Gilmore girls. Though many of us assumed the revival would bring much needed closure, the open-ended up-for-interpretation last few moments of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life may bring less clarity, not more.

We will spend a lot of time discussing all of our feelings about this reboot—and those last four words–in the upcoming episode of The Shipping Room Podcast, due for release at 12:01am on Friday 12/2. In the meantime, here’s a look at how this Thanksgiving weekend Gilmore binge is likely to have impacted the most dedicated shippers.

In an age where great television can be consumed in a myriad of ways–on all the major networks, on basic cable, premium cable, streaming platforms, and YouTube–it’s impossible to watch everything. It’s hard to know why some shows break through the noise and catch on with audiences while others don’t. Certainly some of it is merit, but arguably some shows that find larger audiences don’t have as much to say as shows that struggle, and yet, they find themselves on air far longer than their meatier counterparts because their viewers show up week after week.

One of the biggest frustrations on television today is the constant denial of one very real fact: women have abortions. We’ve talked at length on the show about the ways that TV has gotten around this issue over the years. From Julia’s convenient miscarriage on Party of Five to the countless women who choose to keep babies in circumstances that likely would have led to abortion had their characters lived in the real world. On Parenthood, Amber chose to have her baby, though the show did have Drew’s girlfriend Amy get an abortion earlier in the series. Amy, however, then fell into a deep depression and dropped out of school as a result of the trauma brought on by this abortion. Continue reading

I picked up the newest Harry Potter book this weekend completely by accident. I knew there was a new installment in J.K. Rowling’s beloved series, and I knew it was written as a play, but beyond that I hadn’t done much research. I loved the Harry Potter series when I read it, just a few years ago, in my late twenties. I was mesmerized by the storytelling and fell deeply for the characters, but I never became invested it in the Potter world the way that many others have. So, when a new book was released I knew I’d get to it someday, but it wasn’t an immediate priority. Continue reading

Hi all!

Next week we are thrilled the welcome back Aaron & Andy, aka the Gossip Guys, to chat about the ships of Dawson’s Creek! In preparing for this episode, DC superfan Andy made us a list of ship-centric episodes to rewatch. We wanted to share this incredibly thorough list with you and encourage you to watch some of your favorite Capeside moments before we talk about it on the show next week. All parenthetical notes are Andy’s brilliant commentary (find him at twitter.com/wanderinggreene)! [Bolded episodes are priorities!]

If you’re caught up on the podcast, you’ll know I’m knee-deep in a binge of the first two seasons of Younger. It’s been a magical ride through some of the best shipping I’ve experienced in a long time. As next week’s guest, author and therapist Kathleen Smith, could probably confirm: my dopamine levels have been off the charts watching these characters.
